URL Media is pleased to welcome the narrative podcast Immigrantly as its eighteenth media partner.
Since its launch in late 2018, Immigrantly has built an audience dedicated to exploring topics that are often overlooked by mainstream media and Western educational curricula. It is independently owned and led by seven BIPOC women. “Our interview-driven episodes offer complex and challenging conversations with guests from all walks of immigrant life,” said founder Saadia Khan. As a human rights activist and Pakistani-American immigrant herself, Khan knew she wasn’t the only one with questions about cultural dialogue and race in America.
“We are thrilled to partner with URL Media to amplify voices that need to be heard,” said Saadia Kahn, host and producer of Immigrantly. “Our goal is simple — to empower our listeners to be intentional consumers of information and look at critical issues in a more nuanced, holistic fashion.”
Each Tuesday, The Immigrantly Podcast releases new episodes, which reach over 9,000 listeners. The majority of its audience live in major American cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Denver, and Seattle as well as internationally in Canada, France, and the United Kingdom. Women under 34 years old make up the majority of its audience.
On the podcast, individuals can talk openly about difficult aspects of their immigrant identities, reflect on internalized values and assumptions, and learn from unfamiliar narratives. In just three years, the Immigrantly team has attracted collaborations from an impressive roster of performers, writers and scholars, including Grammy-award winning singer and composer Arooj Aftab, Brown Girl Therapy founder Sahaj Kohli, and author Khaled Hosseini. The team has also worked with Indiana University's Muslim Voices Project and the National Hockey League (NHL).
"Immigrantly has a nuanced pulse on a growing, vital part of America," said URL Media CEO S. Mitra Kalita. "We're excited to partner and highlight important issues, people and policy."
The organization has ambitious goals for the year ahead. Immigrantly plans to hire full-time employees to broaden its marketing efforts, improve brand awareness, and expand its reach. The team also plans to build a community on TikTok.
